to answer all of your plant questions.
Located in King, NC just north of
Winston-Salem, we sell to landscapers,
contractors, florists, garden centers, and
the public. Group tours of our
facilities are available with an appointment.
Mitchell's is a member of the North Carolina
Association of Nurserymen and Landscapers,
North Carolina Agritourism Networking
Association, North Carolina
Commercial Flower Growers Association, King
Chamber of Commerce, North Carolina Green
Industry Council, and the Goodness Grows in
North Carolina program.
Mitchell's Nursery and Greenhouse was
started by Judy and Jim Mitchell in 1979 on
an extra lot beside their house. Jim and
Judy both graduated from North Carolina
State University with BS in horticulture,
where they had courses in landscape design,
as well as nursery and greenhouse courses.
Judy also is a Certified Plant Professional.
In 1993 the Mitchells moved the growing
nursery to the present location on Dalton
Rd. The first greenhouse was added in 1996.
Since then they have added 11 more
greenhouse bays, and tore down the first 2. The last 7 are
gutter connected, which saves energy. In the summer of 2008 they
also installed an energy curtain to conserve more heat. These
last seven are watered with drip irrigation to conserve water
and have rolling benches to grow more in less space. In 2001,
after working in a large greenhouse operation in Raleigh, their
son, Jay, came back to help with the growing family business.

Joe Love Grower of the Year in June 2010 from the NCCFGA.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Jim has been a Boy Scout Leader since 1989.
In 2004 Jim and Judy jointly received the, Laity Service Award
from their church, Trinity United Methodist in King.
Jim is president of the North Carolina Epilepsy Association.

The necessary training had been completed to become a 2012
Proven Winners® Certified Garden Center. This program
provides garden center owners and employees with up-to-date
information so they can assist consumers in choosing and
growing Proven Winners plants. |

As a 2012 Certified Garden Center, employees have successfully
completed a training program and test, which evaluated their
gardening knowledge and ability to assist customers with
questions about plant performance, characteristics, and care.
Each spring a new training program is distributed that
highlights new Proven Winners introductions and reviews existing
products to ensure that employees have the most current and
comprehensive information.
According to Marshall Dirks, Director of Marketing for Proven
Winners, "A knowledgeable sales staff increases the chances
consumers have for success with their plant purchases. Proven
Winners is committed to making sure that employees have the
resources necessary to stay informed."
